Ubiquinol (QH) is a vitamin-like nutrient, ubiquitously present in almost all cells, which plays an essential role in the energy production of cells through the respiratory chain in mitochondria. It has also several other functions of great importance for the cellular metabolism, as antioxidant and also involved in cell signaling and gene expression. It has two forms: oxidized form and reduced form. They are constantly changing into the other form inside the human cells as they make their function. Ubiquinol is the most common form of Q10 in vivo, and accounts for more than 80% of the total Q10 pool in human plasma, intestine and liver.
Compared with marketed QH, Crystal QH has better stability. Stored at 25 ºC/60% RH, open condition for 4 weeks,the content of marketed QH decreased 6%, while the content of Crystal QH only decreased 2%.
Compared with current marketed Q10 and QH, Crystal QH displays an obviously increased absorption (4.5 times in AUC and 2-4 times in Cmax).
Crystal QH present significantly better glycemic control effect than that of Marketed QH. Model SD rats having Type II diabetes took Crystal QH and marketed QH orally at a dose of 20 mg/kg for 40 days. The results showed that compared with the rats taking marketed QH, the rats taking Crystal QH had a 33.7% decrease in fasting blood glucose and a significantly improved (efficacy) in glucose tolerance.
